Well, it's over I guess, until the final volume comes out, which I already read online。 I guess my takeaway is that I agree with the masses。。。 the Hawk of the New Millenium arc is where the story drops off a bit, too many sidekicks and side quests, etc。 I do, however, think the drop-off is not that steep! I like the rest of the comic (oops sorry "manga", sorry teacher!), there's lots of cool drawerings and it's fun to see stuff like say, guts riding Nosferatu Zodd like a surfboard。 Well, i guess Well, it's over I guess, until the final volume comes out, which I already read online。 I guess my takeaway is that I agree with the masses。。。 the Hawk of the New Millenium arc is where the story drops off a bit, too many sidekicks and side quests, etc。 I do, however, think the drop-off is not that steep! If you're alone, if it's just your life, you can use it however you please。 Wear yourself out, get cut to ribbons; doesn't matter。 But when there's two, the blade grows heavy。 Fighting like death no longer concerns you; it becomes a thing of the past。 It's no longer just you。 I threw away my way of life, relied on the strength of others, and somehow pushed on。。。I am grateful。 - GutsRest in peace, Miura。 If you're alone, if it's just your life, you can use it however you please。 Wear yourself out, get cut to ribbons; doesn't matter。 But when there's two, the blade grows heavy。 Fighting like death no longer concerns you; it becomes a thing of the past。 It's no longer just you。 I threw away my way of life, relied on the strength of others, and somehow pushed on。。。I am grateful。 - GutsRest in peace, Miura。 。。。more

**I tried my best to give a full review without spoiling anything**I didn't bother to update my thoughts on every single volume of the manga, so this is my review of the series as a whole。Kentaro Miura created an incredible work within his lifetime, and it is so deeply upsetting that he passed on without ever getting to see the conclusion of his labor and creativity。 While I like many other readers of the series have issues with its gratuitous violence towards women, Berserk's Golden Age arc is **I tried my best to give a full review without spoiling anything**I didn't bother to update my thoughts on every single volume of the manga, so this is my review of the series as a whole。Kentaro Miura created an incredible work within his lifetime, and it is so deeply upsetting that he passed on without ever getting to see the conclusion of his labor and creativity。 While I like many other readers of the series have issues with its gratuitous violence towards women, Berserk's Golden Age arc is one of my favorite stories I have read。 What really gripped me about Berserk in the first place is its beginnings in dark fantasy and horror and incredible artwork。 Gut's extensive character development and Griffith's descent into the Godhand were fleshed-out and riveting。 I think the great disappointment for me while reading Berserk is how it started to lose itself in the later arcs。 The story focused more on world-building than the characters themselves, and I really could not find myself caring about most of the members of Guts' gang by the end of the story so far。 Berserk began to lack a clear objective even when there was so much potential laid out at the end of Golden Age。 The lighter tone that the manga began to have was just not interesting to me, and I found the jokes and comic relief to be kind of annoying。 I found myself really missing the dark and disturbing elements of the story that kept me feverishly reading in the first place。 The more magical and fantastical elements introduced in the Falcon of the Millenium Empire arc were overdone and honestly a little silly。 Overall, Berserk was a very compelling read and a real testament to Miura's talent。If a faithful, meticulous, and actually well-done anime adaptation of the first few arcs of Berserk were made I have no doubt that it would be one of the best anime of all time。 。。。more

A masterpiece。 I've been in mourning for weeks now thinking about Kentaro Miura and Berserk。There is so much to this story, what it means to me and what it means to the artistic community。 Recently, I'm starting to see just how many of my favorite stories and games were inspired by Berserk and Guts。 For example, Final Fantasy, Bleach, etc。When I first read Berserk, I had dropped it because of the first few chapters and the amount of gore。 I was in High School and I couldn't stomach the violence。 A masterpiece。 I've been in mourning for weeks now thinking about Kentaro Miura and Berserk。There is so much to this story, what it means to me and what it means to the artistic community。 Recently, I'm starting to see just how many of my favorite stories and games were inspired by Berserk and Guts。 For example, Final Fantasy, Bleach, etc。When I first read Berserk, I had dropped it because of the first few chapters and the amount of gore。 I was in High School and I couldn't stomach the violence。 My initial thoughts were "why would anyone want to read and watch blood and guts fly around, why would people find entertainment in seeing people decapitated or sliced in half。。。why would people want to see and read the worst of what humankind has to offer in regards to our behavior and actions。" Although my thought's weren't exactly articulate as that, it's what I felt and so I dropped the series despite my online friends (who were much older than me) recommending it to me。Little did I know back then just how much Berserk would mean to me personally。 I am now in my mid-twenties。 It has taken me more than a decade to appreciate and celebrate Berserk for what it is。 To me, despite the fantasy and the magical elements to the story, the God Hand, and the concept of "Casuality," Berserk is life as it is。A lot of stories are meant to distract us from the hardship of life, be it modern or historical or even of a perceived sense of dread of a future to come。 These stories are meant to keep us happy, and content。 Keep us distracted。 Not a lot of them are to console us。A lot of the things that happen in this story, happens in real life。 If not in our vicinity, then in a distant Country less fortunate than our own。 Our sense of security blinding us to the atrocities happening all around us。 One day we see violence and death in the media, and then the next moment we watch something on YouTube or Twitch and then just forget。I am not saying this to condemn anyone or our way of life, more so just to paint a picture。 We all have things we struggle with, and one persons struggles is just as important as the others。 But that fact also makes us selfish, cunning, greedy, emotional, entitled, jealous, etc。。。because we're all main characters in our own lives, we're all strugglers。 Don't kill me for saying this, but Griffith is just as much a struggler as Guts is (more to this thought later on)。Just as Guts was supposed to die as a newborn, Griffith was supposed to die (metaphorically) the moment he lost his ability to lead and even form sentences。 And yet life brought them chances to keep struggling or keep going。Although Griffith has reach the level of the God Hand, it was and still is his humanly ambitions that drive him。 Just because a human reaches the levels and power of Demon Kind, does not mean they relinquish their humanly emotions。Berserk reminds us how shitty life is or can become and yet consoles us at the same time。 It shows us the atrocities in which humankind is capable of, as well as the intricacies of the human condition that can make us so cruel。 But then it also shows us a flower giving it's life to save a prisoner, or a group of friends pushing forward to save a woman from the death of her own sanity, and then we see the woman reborn again, just like the two people she cared about the most。We see both the horrifically ugly and the beautiful side of life, and people。Rest in Peace, Kentaro Miura。 Thank you for Berserk, it truly is a masterpiece despite unfinished。 。。。more

A fantastic volume that keeps dangling the story like a carrot in front of a donkey, we keep nearing what looks like some form of resolution only to have it snatched away。 Luckily the journey is enthralling and the artwork outstanding, although at times it does feel like Miura is forging on without an end goal in mind。

I will use the latest volume for my overall review of the series。Berserk is really something else, it’s probably the best piece of fiction I’ve ever read。 It set the standard for not just subsequent manga, but for the dark fantasy genre as a whole。 I believe it is one of the few things I would like to read multiple times, just to look at those hyper-detailed panels again。 The story, the characters, and the art are just stunning。 Super excited to wait another 30 years for Miura to finish the mang I will use the latest volume for my overall review of the series。Berserk is really something else, it’s probably the best piece of fiction I’ve ever read。 It set the standard for not just subsequent manga, but for the dark fantasy genre as a whole。 I believe it is one of the few things I would like to read multiple times, just to look at those hyper-detailed panels again。 The story, the characters, and the art are just stunning。 Super excited to wait another 30 years for Miura to finish the manga。 In the meantime, I’ll keep reading it over and over again。 。。。more

This one's emotional。 But it's so fulfilling and satisfying to see Casca this way again。 And even though it's immediately followed by a prolonged Griffith chapter, and even though it keeps the payoff to the Casca chapter out of these pages it is still such a satisfying volume all around。I've seen people saying that the series has been spinning its wheels in the last few volumes or in general, but I think the author knows where he's going and unlike other writers that have taken years to wrap up This one's emotional。 But it's so fulfilling and satisfying to see Casca this way again。 And even though it's immediately followed by a prolonged Griffith chapter, and even though it keeps the payoff to the Casca chapter out of these pages it is still such a satisfying volume all around。I've seen people saying that the series has been spinning its wheels in the last few volumes or in general, but I think the author knows where he's going and unlike other writers that have taken years to wrap up there work I think he knows HOW to get there and all it takes is time。 Because I've enjoyed every volume and every chapter and as of the current moment I am caught up volume wise and I do still just love every volume because of moments that this volume gives。In the end it was worth it。 And in the final end all the time will have been worth it。 Now all I need is patience。5 stars。 。。。more
